Collecting, indexing and listing – The German National Library is the central archive library and the national bibliographic centre of the Federal Republic of Germany. In cooperation with the German Library in Leipzig and the German Music Archive in Berlin, the German National Library in Frankfurt am Main performs the function of a national library. It is responsible for the collection, indexing and bibliographic listing of German and German-language literature since 1913. In addition, focal functions were transferred to each location. The German National Library in Frankfurt am Main is responsible for the development of information and communication technology; this also includes the establishment and management of the central database. The German Exile Archive 1933-1945 is also located in Frankfurt.
