Project Description

1st prize realisation competition EWE Arena Oldenburg [2003]

The small EWE Arena Oldenburg – the home of Oldenburg’s professional basketball and handball teams. The arena is an integrated part of the Weser-Ems trade fair and event centre and a central element to increase the value of the previously neglected southern side of the trade fair. It has a capacity of up to 4,000 spectators. In addition to sports events, the hall is used for stage and concert events and as an additional exhibition area.

Vertical Photovoltaics A special feature of the building is the mobile photovoltaic system, which tracks the position of the sun. It serves both to generate electrical energy and as sun protection for the foyer behind it. Balanced lighting conditions due to natural daylight are thus guaranteed. Since its opening in 2005, the hall has received a large number of awards for its sustainable design: City of Oldenburg Urban Landscape Award 2006, European Solar Prize 2006, “PV im Bau” award.
