The Dubai Central Library – a central library of international class whose importance extends beyond the borders of the emirate. The new library will hold approximately 1.7 million volumes. With a floor space of 50,000 square metres, the building has public functions such as a conference centre, exhibition rooms, bookshop, children’s library and library administration in a base area. The central library area rises above it as a multi-storey open-plan room. The sculptural shape of the building is inspired by the traditional Islamic “Rahle” reading desk.
