17 Jan 2009 Türk Telekom Arena is taking shape The topography of the sloped site with a level difference of up to 60 meters from one end to the other posed a particular challenge. Special foundation measures were necessary – especially for the large “super-columns” that support the roof structure. Structural work is progressing and well in schedule according to the general contractor. Sub-contractor for the retractable roof structure will be a Chinese firm that was already involved in the construction of the Beijing Olympic Stadium. |

The stadium will open for the second half of the 2009/2010 Turkish football season. Türk Telecom the new main sponsor of Galatasaray SK acquired the naming rights for the new stadium for a ten year period. The facility will be called “Türk Telecom Arena” and thus be the first stadium in Turkey to carry a sponsor’s name. mehr |
